~Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming~

I am still swimming, did not mean to sound like I was giving up. I was just overwhelmed. I am still pretty down, but like I said, I don't know how to fail, so there will be no giving up on my end!

Did any of you ever watch Heman as a child. Well I did, and I loved it.... I came across this video via MBT's blog, and it is so wrong, but so funny. I have to wonder what I was thinking as a kid...

Speaking of which, it is gay and lesbian pride week at UF... I don't know how I feel about this. I mean to each his own, but do you have to flaunt it? I don't make out with my boyfriend (when I have one) in public... So I have mixed feelings on the topic.

My teacher, my stat teacher, is obviously all for it, or gay himself. He wore kakhi pants on Tuesday, with pastel paint splotches on the front, in pink, purple, green, yellow.... which would have been fine if this was how he chose to dress on a daily basis, BUT it is not. Then his powerpoint slides, which are usually very professional were rainbow colored, and so bright that it was hard to read. The bar graphs looked like advertisements for rainbow brite... Again to each his own, but that was unprofessional in my opinion. You don's see straight teachers flaunting there sexual preferences to students. It just doesn't come up... so why? I just don't get it. I don't have anything against it. Be gay if it makes you happy, I accept it. But don't let it affect your work. Just my opinion, I paid 330$ for that class, if I had wanted something unprofessional I would have saved my money and not attended UF. This is supposed to be a prestigous University. It is the same principle as a teacher of any other topic, using class time to talk politics, when it has nothing to do with the subject matter. Don't try to push your opinions on a captioned audience. We can't just get up and leave, so teach what you are paid to teach, teach what is relevant to the subject material... and let us come to our own conclusions.

Useless thought of the day: Did you know that the question mark came from a monk habit of writing the Latin word for question, quo, at the end of sentences. Over time, the letters were written vertically to save space and morphed into the ? we write today. Similarly, the exclamation point came from the Latin word "Lo", meaning something important that should be heeded. (Lo and behold...)

I have no problem with what you chose to do with your life, after all it is your life. What bothered me was that my teacher brought it into the classroom, and created a completely unprofessional setting for learning.

as far as flaunting heterosexuality, you don't ever hear about straight pride week do you?

"Flaunt whatever you like, free society"

I plan on it, this is my blog, thanks! That does include voicing my opinion. But when it comes to my career, I will keep a professional tone no matter what my opinion.

You were a little abrupt, I was not bashing anyone. Carmel (who I think your reply was more aimed at, though I did not realize it till you said "If you'll check my post, it came on the heels of another reply") Happens to be a devout Catholic. People come from all walks of life.

"How do you feel about a person flaunting religion in a professinal setting?"

I feel that the teacher should stick to the subject matter. If that subject matter is religion, say for example humanities, then by all means teach it. But if it is chemistry, or math, they have no business wasting lecture time on their personal beliefs. I am there to learn the material, and Make A's... I pay for them to teach... so teach!

I have had gay friends, and I know people who have gay children. I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't even mind gay pride week. It is when it bleeds over into the class room, and disrupts my learning, that I have a problem with it. The same goes for religion and politics.

I once had an American History teacher, he was a very liberal democrat. He decided to talk one day (just before the election) about the Vietnam war... (we were still on indentured servitude and slavery, matter of fact the class did not even go that late into American history) After about 10 minutes of W bashing, comparing this war to that one, I raised my hand and politely asked, "Is this going to be on the test?"

He got the point, and went back to the subject material. I thought I hated that teacher, but after that day, he would often stop me outside of class, and chat politics. This I was all for, I don't mind a debate, and I will listen to your point of view, but class is not the proper place for it. He ended up writing me a recomendation to get into UF,because I held my ground, and spoke up. I email him still today.

Moral of the story: I may not agree with what a person does, but so long it is legal, to each his own, but don't bring it in to the class room. (i.e. I don't condone drug using or beating your wife, or rape)

I didnt want to sound like gays are after us or anything. I think they can do what they want in their personal life, I have no opinion on them being gay or not.
Someones sexuality is none of my business. In the workplace I find flaunting it is not appropriate, whether gay or straight, or whatever other sexuality there may be that I havent heard of!!
I don't flaunt my Christianity to anyone, I believe in my own thing and if any one asks I will be happy to talk with them, as for wearing a dress made of rosary beads to work (which I assume would flaunt my Christianity) that's something I wouldnt do, again, to me, keep your sex life and sexual orientation out of the workplace.
Anyway Heather, i'm back, thanks for checking for me, you rock!!!
